Sponsorship and Maintenance of Beds

SPONSORSHIP

Flower beds, planters and baskets are sponsored by local businesses and individuals. The cost of sponsoring varies.

  • Flower beds on the Old Station Roundabout There are 5 beds. These are the largest beds we have and all are currently sponsored. Each sponsor has a plaque by the bed they sponsor.
  • Flower beds along the Palace walls  These vary in size. Each has a sponsor’s sign attached and, again, all these are taken. A waiting list is held should a bed become available.
  • tubPlanters  These are placed in the High Street in early summer and remain there until mid to late autumn. Each sponsor has a plaque in the planter they sponsor.
  • Hanging baskets  These are placed within the centre of Bishop’s Waltham. These are often hung outside the premises of the sponsors. Those that are sponsored by individuals are hung on lamp posts in Cross Street

A list of sponsors for 2019 will replace this shortly.

Several years ago the Crown Roundabout was cleared of the old planting and replanted with a variety of shrubs.  Spring bulbs have also been planted. We are grateful to Hambrooks (from Titchfield) who have completed this work for us completely free of charge and who continue to maintain it.

We receive an annual grant from Bishop’s Waltham Parish Council towards our costs.

The plants for the flower beds, hanging baskets and planters are supplied by Meon Valley Nurseries, Soberton.

MAINTENANCE
All flower beds need to be maintained throughout the year. They are planted  towards the end of May and then dead headed and weeded throughout the summer by a small team of volunteers. Plants are then removed in late October or in November.  we are always looking for volunteers to help with this task.  If you are interested then please contact us via our contacts page.

We are trying to increase the number of permanent plants in the flower beds on the Old Station Roundabout. Permanent planting means that the beds do not look too barren in the winter and early spring. We will always allow room for colourful plants throughout the summer.

All our beds, planters and baskets are sponsored by businesses and individuals. The sponsorship pays for the cost of the plants and towards the watering. This is done on a daily basis from June through to September and we employ two people who water early each morningThe baskets and planters are positioned in the early summer and remain in place  until the autumn.

Some of our planters are planted with flowers throughout the year. Bishop’s Waltham Parish Council bear some of the costs for the memorial planters.
