Quiz Night 2025

On Saturday 1st February we held our 15th Annual Quiz Night. Simon Tooley has been our Quiz Master every year and we presented him with a hamper to say thank you.
We had 27 teams taking part.
The themes of the rounds were: “Bond theme tunes”; “Matching towns to counties”; “All sounds a bit fishy”; “Quotes and catchphrases”; “Symbols and logos” and finally “Dingbats”. Scores varied but only 2 rounds had any team scoring full marks.
“Dingbats” were distributed at the beginning for the teams to work on throughout the evening. There were 48 to work out with the highest score being 39 and the lowest 22.
As usual we served a ploughman’s supper part way through the evening, catering for gluten-free and lactose-intolerant guests as well. Fresh fruit was also served.
Both the winning team and the losing teams were presented with prizes: Bonnet Saints United receiving a “grow your own” herb pot and Patently Absurd a bottle of wine each. This is not the first time Patently Absurd have won our quiz. This year they scored 134 out of a possible 148!

A huge thank you to everyone who visited our Sizzling Sausage stall on Thursday 28th November at the Christmas Fayre.
We raised just short of £600 towards our running costs for 2025.

Beavers planting daffodils 2024

On Sunday 3rd November a group of Beavers met at the Scout Hut to plant daffodils. Two 5kg bags were quickly dug into an area at the far end of the recreation ground. When they flower in March and April they will be visible from the public footpath that runs alongside the sports ground.

Country Fayre, St Peter’s Church, Saturday 21st September 2024

A huge thank you to all those who visited our stall on Saturday.
We were selling some of our yarn bombing, some books, garden sundries and plants.
Our treasure garden was a huge success too with around 120 children (and adults too) trying to decide where the treasure was.

The winner was a two year old boy who has recently moved to Bishop’s Waltham.
We took around £100 on the stall, a pleasing result.
Where was the treasure?…under the middle of the climbing frame!
Children’s hanging baskets 2024
The winners of the children’s baskets not only receive a certificate but they also receive a small monetary prize. Rainbows, who won first prize, contacted us to say that they had used their prize money to plant bulbs outside the Guide Hut. They sent us some photos too but we are not able to share those with you.
If you would like to see photos of the children’s baskets they are at the end of this link
Winning entries for the 2024 Front Garden Competition
A BBQ was held for over 90 people to thank all our volunteers, including those who opened their gardens for Hidden Gardens in July.

Also invited were all the competition entrants. During the afternoon the prizes were awarded. There were a generous number of Highly Commendeds as well as 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. A huge thank you to our judges Hazel and Paul Woodman.

Hidden Gardens 2024
Sunday 7th July 11.00 – 5.00
huge thank you to everyone who braved the weather on Sunday to visit our Hidden Gardens. We are pleased to say that we had 350 visitors, over 150 buying their tickets on the day. All the gardeners enjoyed talking to people about their gardens. It is interesting for us to see where visitors travel from.

Thank you to all of you who bought plants and had refreshments too.
The profit from these go towards our fundraising for our running costs each year.
The Crown Roundabout has been renovated by Hambrooks

For two days at the beginning of October 2023 two gardeners worked hard to weed, prune, replant and generally tidy the Crown Roundabout. We took a series of photos to show their progress
